a cultural walk
connecting to country
In support of the
WILLIAM CAMPBELL FOUDATION
supporting vulnerable children and young people in foster care in the Shoalhaven and Illawarra.
Walk along the white sands of Jervis Bay while deepening your connection to it’s indigenous history and culture.
Explore and experience the cultural significance of Jervis Bay as shared by the people of the Yuin Nation. Soak up the landscape while you learn about native vegetation for food and medicine and experience Aboriginal culture through song, dance and stories along the journey.
The event organisers desire to be involved in the protection of the natural environment and cultural heritage values of the park and its surrounding areas. We invite you to join us on this journey to deepen your connection and respect to the land and it’s first nation’s people of our country.
Along the walk, you will have the opportunity to see and listen to the cultural heritage of our precious coastline. This can involve;
Listen to storytelling at set points along the course
Watching local cultural dancing
Listening to cultural music and traditions
Listening and Learning about the local area and its history
Watching local crafting, traditions and the local cultural foods and delights.
We would like to acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we meet today. For those who have travelled and those who are lucky enough to live on this beautiful land, rich with culture and ancestral history, we pay our respects to elders, past, present and emerging. We acknowledge that the indigenous people have had a deep and continuing connection to this land and sea for thousands of years, and will do so for generations to come. This is the land of the Yuin nation, the salt water people. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded, and this rich land and water we meet on today always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
Supporting our community
Our journey began in 1998, when William (Bill) Campbell, decided after being a child in care himself, wanted to open a foundation that supported children and young people in his local community.
21 years later and William Campbell Foundation is one of the largest not-for-profit organisations supporting the South Coast of NSW.
We provide services and programs including Permanency Support and Foster Care, Family Support Services and Clinical Services to support children, young people, individuals, and families.
